The shows begin at 12 p.m. and extend through the evening with the annual fireworks show capping off the night at midnight. Watch Night in Falls Church

New Year’s Eve is one of the best nights of the year to be in Falls Church, Va. Holiday Desserts in Your RV

Sweets and desserts are some of the most anticipated parts of the holiday season. Cookies, cakes, candy and even sweet drinks are enjoyed all across the country this time of year, and you don’t have to miss out because you’re spending the holidays in your RV. These simple dessert recipes are easy to make right in the comfort of your holiday home on wheels.

Big and Soft Gingerbread Cookies

What you’ll need:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3/4 cup margarine (softened)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons additional white sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses

Cooking instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix the flour, baking soda, ginger, cloves, cinnamon and salt together, then set the mixture aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the softened margarine and 1 cup of sugar together until it is a light, fluffy consistency.
  4. Beat the egg into the margarine mixture, then stir in the molasses and water.
  5. Slowly stir the flour mixture into the molasses mixture, then shape the dough into small balls.
  6. Roll the dough balls through the remaining sugar, and set them on an un-greased baking sheet. Flatten the dough balls slightly.
  7. Bake the cookies for roughly eight minutes, then allow them to cool for five minutes on the cookie sheet.

Chocolate Brittle Surprise

What you’ll need:

  • 35 unsalted soda crackers
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Cooking instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees, then cover a baking sheet with foil and grease it lightly.
  2. Place the crackers on the cookie sheet.
  3. Microwave the butter for two minutes, then stir in the brown sugar.
  4. Microwave the mixture for two more minutes, stopping to stir every 30 seconds.
  5. Pour the butter mixture over the crackers and bake for 17-20 minutes.
  6. Place chocolate chips on top of the hot crackers, then spread once they’ve melted.
  7. Sprinkle the nuts on top, and refrigerate your brittle for one hour.

Package No. 2 includes all of the features of Package No. 1 plus the winterization of your washer/dryer unit or ice maker.

Few national scenic sights in the country are as beautiful as the Bluestone National Scenic River. Rugged outdoor scenery, a unique history and a huge array of flora and fauna make the Bluestone National Scenic River a must-see for anyone traveling through West Virginia.

Things To Do

There’s so much to do at the Bluestone National Scenic River, you’ll want to plan at least a few days to enjoy all the area has to offer. Visitors can enjoy hiking, fishing and hunting within the scenic river grounds, but be sure to log onto the park’s website to find out more about special hunting and fishing regulations.

Outside of the park, this area of West Virginia is one of the most enjoyable in the entire state. Visitors should make time to explore the nearby New River Gorge National River and the Gauley River Recreation Area as well as other exciting sights like the John Henry Historical Park, the Hinton Historic District and the Coal Heritage Trail. The Bluestone National Scenic River and its surrounding areas are the perfect place to take in the culture and history of beautiful West Virginia.

Camping Near the Bluestone River

Camping is not allowed on the park grounds, but the Bluestone State Park and Pipestem Resort State Park are located just outside of the park limits. And although there is not currently a visitor center at the Bluestone National Scenic River, park rangers at the New River Gorge National River can help you plan your trip to the area parks and direct you to the best local campgrounds.

Park Details

The Bluestone National Scenic River park is open year round, although the Pipestem Resort State Park’s tram only operates in warmer months (May through October). Visitors can still access the park in the winter months by hiking the River Trail. The park is free and open to the public, but fees are required for hunting and fishing permits.

December Events You Must See in Virginia

December is one of the most happening months in Virginia, and that means there’s no better time to visit in your RV. So when you’re passing through Virginia and the D.C. area this month, don’t forget to make some time to enjoy these awesome holiday festivities.

Smithsonian Holiday Festival

Venture into the city for the Smithsonian’s annual holiday festival filled with family-friendly concerts, films, holiday photo ops, Mars Chocolate candy demonstrations and tons of other festivities at local Smithsonian museums. Just head to the National Mall and catch the shuttle, which takes off every 10 minutes. The event takes place on Dec. 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Some of the museums participating in the event include the Natural History Museum, the Air and Space Museum, the African Art Museum, the American History Museum and a few of your other D.C. favorites.

The Downtown D.C. Holiday Market

It’s no secret that D.C. is the place to be for fun holiday events. From Nov. 28 to Dec. 23, you can stock up on locally-made, hand-crafted gifts from the Downtown D.C. Holiday Market.
