Accessorizing Your RV for Fall

Photo by Big Red Campfire: http://bigredcampfire.com/

The fall and winter RV seasons are some of our favorites here at Reines, but the cooler fall temperatures, shorter days and variable road conditions mean you may need a few extra accessories to enjoy the season in your RV. The following are some of the latest and greatest RV accessories and camping supplies for fall, and they’re all available on the Reines RV Center online parts store.

Big Red Campfire

A campfire is an essential part of the fall RV experience, but some RV parks, campgrounds and tailgating spots don’t allow in-ground fires. This is where the Big Red Campfire — a portable gas campfire with realistic logs — comes in extremely handy. The 9.5-inch ring burner creates a natural fire ambiance, and the 10-foot propane hose makes it practical to use with any standard LP gas cylinder. Even better, it’s easy to carry and ultra-safe, so you can enjoy the warmth of a campfire as well as peace of mind.

PowerQube Portable Power Station

The shorter days and variable weather conditions may mean you’re spending a bit more time inside in fall than you would in summer. This PowerQube Portable Power Station allows you to charge up to nine smartphones or devices at the same time with three USB ports and six AC ports. The PowerQube’s small, portable design also means you can take it anywhere.

Vent Insulator

When your RV’s ventilation seems to be letting the cold weather inside, you need an energy-saving Vent Insulator from Leisure Time Marketing. This thermal vent insulator ensures your RV gets three extra inches of insulation to keep the interior of your RV warm when the temperatures outside are less than comfortable. This same ventilation can keep the interior of your RV cooler in the summer too.

Everything Else You Need

Find all of the RV supplies you need 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the Reines RV Center online parts store. And if you’re in the market for a new or used RV this fall, don’t forget to stop in and see us six days a week on Balls Ford Road in Manassas.

Living life on the road doesn’t mean you have to cancel your favorite holiday traditions. And cooking an elaborate Thanksgiving dinner inside your RV is probably easier than you may think. Try these simple and easy Thanksgiving recipes to bring some holiday cheer to your RV park this November.

Yellow Squash Casserole

What You’ll Need:

  • 4 cups yellow squash (sliced)
  • 35 buttery round crackers (crushed)
  • 1/2 onion (chopped)
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ground black pepper to taste

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Preheat your RV oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Heat the onion and squash in a skillet over medium heat, then pour in a small amount of water. Cover the mixture and let it cook until the squash is soft (roughly 5 minutes).
  3. Drain the onion and squash mixture, then place it in a large bowl.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the crackers and cheese.
  5. Stir half of your cracker mixture into the onion and squash mixture.
  6. In a separate small bowl, mix the milk and eggs together, then stir in the squash mixture. Add 1/4 cup melted butter, then season it with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Spread your mixture into a 9 by 13-inch baking dish and sprinkle the leftover cracker mixture on top.
  8. Dot with two tablespoons of butter and bake your casserole for 25 minutes, then serve.

No Cook Cranberry Salad

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 can whole cranberry sauce (14.5 ounces)
  • 6 seedless green grapes (halved)
  • 1/4 can mandarin oranges (drained and sliced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 red apple (diced)
  • 2 tablespoons sweetened coconut flakes
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)

Preparation Instructions:

  1. Mix the cranberry sauce, mandarin oranges, grapes, coconut, apple, walnuts and vanilla together in a large bowl.
  2. Let the salad sit for about 30 minutes, then toss and serve.

Stop By Reines Before You Hit the Road

Before you hit the road this holiday season, don’t forget to stop by Reines RV Center in Manassas for all of your holiday RV needs. Whether you need a little maintenance performed before another RV season or just a few camping supplies for snowbirding, stop in and see us six days a week.

Tips for Snowbirding in Your RV

Vicki Watkins/Flickr Creative Commons

Winter came on quickly around the U.S. this year, but that’s a good thing for RV enthusiasts. Early snowfall and cooler temperatures mean it’s time to start the snowbird season early. Whether you’re a first time snowbirder or a seasoned veteran, these simple snowbirding tips will help you enjoy the best winter of RVing yet.

Check Your Propane Tank in Seconds

Toting around a propane tank without a gauge? Determining your propane level may be easier than you think. Simply pour a cup of hot water on one side of the tank, then run your hand along the side of it to feel where the temperature turns from hot ot cold. The level of your tank is where you feel the temperature change.

Create Your Own Memory Cards

It may seem obvious that you need to put down your attena and disconnect the sewer hose before leaving the campsite, but you might be surprised how easy some tasks are to forget. Hang small signs around your RV to remind you to disconnect, turn off or stow certain items. Don’t forget to create a checklist for setting up and taking down your RV, and be sure to use it every time you arrive at or leave a campsite.

Stick Your Seat Cushions Down

The snowbird season means you’ll be spending a lot of time outside at the RV park enjoying the warm temperatures on your outdoor RV furniture, but keeping the cushions in place can seem impossible. Use the same non-skid liners you use in your cabinets and drawers to help your outdoor (and indoor) cushions stick to your furniture. This can be especially handy on windy days at the RV park.

Spend Your Winter at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore

Michael Bentley/Flickr Creative Commons

Mild temperatures, untouched beaches and countless campgrounds are just a few of the many appealing characteristics of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. This pristine stretch of barrier islands spans from Virginia to southern North Carolina with some of the best fishing, kiteboarding, surfing, birdwatching and camping in the country. And the winter season is when you can spend days doing all of these activities without another soul in sight.

More Than a National Park

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore is part of the U.S. National Park Service, but once you arrive, you’ll realize it offers a much different atmosphere than other national parks throughout the country. It’s not often that you can enjoy wildlife, walks on the beach, ocean sports, historic sites and undisturbed stargazing the same way that you can on the Hatteras National Seashore. Don’t forget to climb to the top of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, take a dip in the ocean, watch the sun rise over the Atlantic and hunt for some of the best seashells on the East Coast while you’re there.

Plan Your Visit

Summer is the most popular time to visit the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, but visiting in the winter means you enjoy a certain atmosphere at the park that many travelers never get to see. The park’s visitor centers at Bodie Island, Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island are open year-round (except for Christmas Day), but the park’s campgrounds are only open in the summer months. Fortunately, the Outer Banks are littered with campgrounds and affordable accommodations — including campsites right on the beach — that are ready to take you in in the winter months.

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore is also pet-friendly (including horses), so bring your furry friends on your winter travels too.
