Handy Food Recipes for Camping

Have you ever been out on the road and needed something quick for breakfast? We don’t always have the time to make a campfire and break out all of the pots and pans to cook a delicious and hardy breakfast. Here are a few from your friends at Reines RV that you can make ahead of time. Simply reheat and eat.

Muffin Tin Egg Breakfast

This is a fast and easy meal to make especially if you have a big family to feed. This recipe serves six.

  • 6 jumbo eggs
  • 6 strips of your favorite kind of bacon
  • Muffin tin

Start by cutting each strip of bacon in half. This will make a total of 12 pieces of bacon. Put 2 pieces of bacon into the bottom of every tin cup within the muffin tin. Place the muffin tin over a medium to high temperature grill or campfire allowing for the bacon to cook until done to your liking. Once done, crack open an egg into each cup of the muffin tin. Cook the eggs until done to your liking. You can play around with this recipe. You can add spinach, ham and cheese to please everyone’s taste buds.

Delicious Pancake Dippers

  • 3 cups flour
  • 3 ½ tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 ½ cups buttermilk, room temperature
  • ½ cup milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 12 slices of hickory bacon
  • Maple Syrup

In a large mixing bowl, combine baking powder, baking soda, salt, flour and sugar. In separate mixing bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, milk, melted butter and vanilla extract. Combine the mixtures together stirring well until everything is mixed. Be careful not to over mix. In a large skillet, cook the bacon until crispy.

Once bacon is finished cooking, pour the batter into an elongated shape on a griddle making it a little bit bigger than your already cooked bacon slices. Place a slice of crispy bacon I the center of each log pancake and gently press bacon in to pancake batter. Pour more batter over the top of each bacon slice. Cook each pancake dipper until the pancake starts to bubble up and then flip until pancake is golden brown. Once finished, serve dippers with your favorite maple syrup and enjoy.

We hope you try these unique and handy recipes on your next Manassas RV camping trip.

2014 Shadow Cruiser

Front Cap

When you want to get away for a couple’s weekend or for a small family retreat, what better than to go camping? There are several great options to choose from as far as small but spacious campers go. The 2014 Shadow Cruiser 225RBS is the perfect travel trailer for the job. It is just 25 feet long and sleeps up to four people. You could go bigger such as with a Class A motorhome or a 40 foot trailer, but why drive or tow a trailer larger than what you need? There is more space and comfort in this smaller-sized trailer than meets the eye. Let’s take a look at it.

The outside features a fiberglass front cap with a diamond plate on the lower half to protect from rocks and debris from the road. There are also two blue LED accent lights that add a nice decorative touch. There’s an ample storage pass-through under the front of the unit which is great for carrying all of your camping, fishing or outdoor gear. The propane system has a duel automatic switch over function so you won’t run out in the middle of the night or while cooking. The awning spans almost the entire length of this Manassas camper and there are outside speakers so you can continue the party anywhere you desire.

Walking inside, you will be amazed at the amount of detail, space and comfort this unit contains. The front of the trailer holds a queen-sized bed with a lot of walking space. Around the bed is the wardrobes on both sides with nightstands. The overhead cabinets are deep and provide more space as well as the storage area under the bed. The slide out on the left of the unit makes for comfortable seating in the dinette which also folds out into a bed that can sleep two. The kitchen features a raised bar, lots of cabinets, a large double sink, oven with stovetop and microwave. The refrigerator is located on the opposite wall.

The bathroom is quite nice with a big corner shower, skylight, toilet, sink and medicine cabinet. You have to see this unit for yourself to believe the value. When you’re ready to take the first step to a relaxing weekend getaway, start at Reines RV. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail

If you’re looking for an exciting place to visit this summer, look no further than the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail. These beautiful pathways are a network of diverse trails and routes that embrace five portions of geographic provinces such as Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia. There are 830 miles of trail networks to explore along with a portion of the Rappahannock River watershed located in Virginia as well as the Potomac River. Traveling along these many trails provide rich history and culture such as the first settlements located along the Tidewater Potomac. The amount of history and things to do here are almost endless.

Hiking opportunities are one of the best ways of experiencing the history and beauty of the trail. Bring a pair of binoculars to do some bird watching. There are several to spot here. Also, if you happen to spot a fawn, make sure to not disturb it. The mother has more than likely just gone to graze and the fawn will not move until its mother returns. Pack a picnic and spend the day exploring on the many trails. For more information regarding the hiking trails, visit http://www.nps.gov/pohe/planyourvisit/hiking-guide.htm.

Along with hiking, there are ample bicycling trails available. So load up your Manassas RV and your biking gear and head out. Some of the trails are the Northern Neck Heritage Trail, the Mount Vernon Trail, the Southern Maryland route as well as the Great Allegheny Passage. Contact the Adventure Cycling Association in order to get a complete set of the Tidewater Potomac Heritage biking route maps. Before you go, alert a friend or family member to where you’re going and a time you will be back. Use caution and make sure to wear protective gear.

Spend the morning paddling through the Youghiogheny River Water Trail. Part of this river runs through Pennsylvania’s deepest gorge right before plummeting to Ohiopyle Falls to an exciting set of rapids. This spot has become world-renown for attracting whitewater paddlers from all over. There are many waterways to explore. Whichever way you decide to discover these gorgeous trails, whether by biking, on foot or paddling, your friends at Reines RV encourage you to play safe this summer.

Sun Safety this Summer in Your Reines RV

School is out finally and it’s officially time for those long hot days of summer. But summer is also a time of fun, relaxing and enjoying the warm rays with your Manassas RV. While spending more time outdoors, it’s important to know a few thing regarding sun safety. Start by planning ahead. Don’t arrive at your destination without sunscreen or other vital sun protective items. Look for summer sales at your local stores. This is the best time to stock up on sunscreen, brim hats, and other protective clothing. When searching for a sunscreen, look for ones with an SPF of 30 or higher. It’s also good to choose ones that are waterproof. Comprise a tote bag of summer essentials. You can also make up small sunscreen kits to bring backpacking so you’re always prepared for any adventure.

Apply your sunscreen. We know this seems common sense but many people forget to apply and/or reapply sunscreen. Sunscreen isn’t a one-step, magical layer that will shield you all day. To get the maximum benefit out of your sunblock, apply it 15 minutes prior to going outside and the reapply every two hours. The sun’s rays are at their strongest between 10am and 4pm. Even if your sunscreen says it is waterproof, always reapply. Don’t forget sensitive areas such as your ears, neck, back, tops of your feet and face. In addition to sunscreen, wear a hat. It’s most beneficial to find a hat with a large brim that goes all the way around. This gives protection to your face, ears and neck.

Drinking plenty of fluids is important in staying safe and healthy in high temperatures. Not waiting to drink is the key. Always drink before you become thirsty to help keep your bodies water level from falling too low which can lead to dehydration. Also, have extra water with you for any prolonged outdoor activities. Avoid sugary drinks as well. Stick to water or low-sugar sports drinks. Drinks with higher sugar contents will cause you to dehydrate faster.

On hot days, try to limit your activities outside or make sure to take many breaks to cool down. If you’re planning to go hiking, choose paths that are well shaded. Children are also more prone to heat exhaustion. It’s important to choose hiking trails that aren’t too long either. We hope you have tons of fun in the sun this year from your friends at Reines RV.

Father’s Day BBQ

Some men are known for their barbecue. They spend hours at the grill perfecting their favorite recipes. If your dad is all about barbecueing from the Manassas RV, then why not give him the best Father’s Day BBQ Sauce? This sauce is made from scratch and is the perfect gift for any dad. For this recipe, you will need the following.

  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 Spanish onion, minced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cans of crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans chipotle chilies in adobe sauce
  • 1/3 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • ½ cup unsulfured molasses
  • Mason jar with lid
  • Basting Brush

Using a medium sauce pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once heated, add the minced garlic and onions. Cook, stirring until the onions become soft and transparent. Next, stir in the chilies, tomatoes, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and molasses. Allow this to simmer until the sauce becomes reduced by a third, stirring intermittently. This process takes about 45 minutes.

Doing this in small batches, puree the reduced sauce in a blender. Season well with black pepper and coarse salt. Pour into the Mason jar and securely place lid on. Using a black marker, write To: Dad on the basting brush. Then, using a ribbon or string, tie the basting brush around the jar. Refrigerate until ready to give to Dad. He will love and appreciate all the hard work that was put into this thoughtful gift.

You can even try making a sauce recipe with Dad. It’s a great way to bond and spend the day together. For this one, you will need the following items. Use your taste buds as the measurements.

  • Dark brown sugar
  • Cider vinegar
  • Organic ketchup
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Honey
  • 14 spice dry rub mix
  • Yellow ballpark mustard

Add all ingredients in a saucepan. Whisk together well and heat to a boil. Reduce and simmer for one hour. Just as easy as that and you’re done. This makes a thick, tangy and sweet BBQ sauce that you and Dad will love. The sauce keeps well refrigerated for two months. Try your own spin on this recipe. Using the original recipe, add ½ teaspoon of liquid smoke for each cup of BBQ sauce. Make sure not to overdo it with the liquid smoke. It is concentrated and can easily over power your sauce. We hope you enjoy these BBQ ideas and have a Happy Father’s Day from Reines RV.
