Tea lovers rejoice! January is National Hot Tea Month, which means it’s time buy that extra special tea you’ve been wanting and curl up by the fire to sip it. If you’re not sure which teas to try this month, these simple recipes should be enough to start you in the right direction.

Crock Pot Chai Tea Latte

Brewing tea in a crock pot may sound ridiculous, but you’ll love the idea when you taste this homemade chai tea latte.

What You’ll Need:

  • 4 cups water
  • 4 cups store-bought coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup loose-leaf black tea (equivalent to 8 tea bags if you don’t have loose leaf)
  • 6 cinnamon sticks
  • 8 slices fresh ginger (very thinly sliced)
  • 2 tsp stevia leaf
  • 8-10 cloves
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Add the water, herbs and spices to the crock pot. Wrap the herbs and spices in a reusable tea bag if possible.
  2. Turn crock pot to high and cook for two hours.
  3. Add coconut milk and stir until the entire contents of the pot are heated.
  4. Serve and enjoy.

Lavender Mint Tea

While lavender certainly smells wonderful, it’s often difficult to imagine drinking something with such a strong scent. Try this delicious yet subtle lavender tea recipe, and you’ll have an entirely new appreciation for the lavender plant.

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 tbsp dried lavender
  • 1/2 cup mint leaf

Instructions:

Mix the lavender and mint in a dry, air-tight storage container. When making your hot tea, use one or two teaspoons of the lavender and mint mixture for every one cup of hot water. This lavender mint tea tastes delicious as an iced tea as well.

Enjoy in Your RV

Best Cinematic Rving

You may not know this, but RVs have celebrity status. Throughout the years, RVs have made their debut on the big screen in more than a handful of memorable movies.

For RV enthusiasts who enjoy a good movie while traveling, get some ideas from this list of favorites of several RV inspired movies from classic film featuring vintage RVs to modern rides. If you have any to suggest, stop by Reines RV Center and share.

The Long, Long Trailer

Wikimedia Commons

The vintage 1953 classic features Americas number one couple, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz as newlyweds starting married life on wheels. The laughs are endless as Lucy’s antics are at full throttle. A highlight of the film is a mountain climb that will have you holding your breath.

Stripes

The 1981 Bill Murray war-comedy features the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle capable of changing from an RV into an assault weapon with a rocket launcher on the roof, machine guns on the front grill, and multiple flamethrowers. The movie may encourage you to want one of your own when battling city traffic.

Lost in America

This 1985 Albert Brooks movie has the actor at his finest comedic mode as his character decides to be a “free spirit” with his wife and discover the highways and byways in a Winnebago. With Brooks in the driver’s seat, you know there’s plenty of laughs.

About Schmidt

Starring Jack Nicholson, the 2002 comedy-drama pits Nicholson in a serious role about discovery. After retiring from a long time career and the death of his wife, Schmidt decides to take a road trip to attend his daughter’s wedding. During the trip to places from his past, he reflects on his life and what he’s done that has made a difference.

RV

Robin Williams fans will get a kick out of his 2006 comedy, “RV.” Go along for the ride with his family and share in the unusual campers they encounter in the Colorado Rockies.

We’re the Millers

The newest addition in 2013 stars Jason Sudeikis as a drug dealer who creates a “pretend” family with Jennifer Anniston. The movie is full of laughs from start to finish.

Healthy Drinks on the Road

Screen Shot 2014-01-22 at 3.47.30 PM

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but if you are one of those who likes to skip that meal and wait around for lunch, then there is an alternative for you. A great way to kick start your metabolism is with a smoothie. Blending fruits and veggies into a smooth, cold drink provides your body with the nutrients to begin the day off right.

It’s a new year with new resolutions, and a way to get and stay healthy on the road is with a good morning routine. A helpful goal would be to plan a week of breakfast smoothies in advance. Before you hit the road, travel to the local farmer’s market and pick up all the fresh ingredients needed to get these smoothies blended.

Reines RV Center has an easy, tasty recipe for Monday morning:

Collard Greens Smoothie with Mango and Lime (courtesy RealSimple.com)

  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 cups stemmed and chopped collard greens or spinach
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen mango
  • 1 cup green grapes

Combine the lime juice, ½ cup water, the collard greens, mango, and grapes in a blender and puree until smooth, about 1 minute, adding more water to reach the desired consistency.

Skinny Margarita

When the sun goes down and everyone gathers around the fire pit to make s’mores and socialize, alcoholic beverages might come into play. Keeping on track with healthy resolutions, there are still ways to join in. Instead of beer, how about opting for a skinny margarita? At only 100 calories per serving this is a drink that is definitely enjoyable.

The ingredients are simple:

  • 6 ounces of tequila
  • 2-3 limes, squeezed
  • salt
  • ice cubes
  • water

Get a cocktail glass filled with ice cubes, squeeze a few lime slices into the glass. Pour about 6 ounces of your favorite tequila and add a few ounces of sparkling water. Salt the rim for flair and enjoy! Please remember to not drink and drive.

Being healthy in your Virginia RV doesn’t mean you have to eat or drink boring, so raise your glass to healthy and tasty drinks. Cheers!

Spring time calls for clear nights and beautiful weather, and Memorial Day weekend. That is perfect for an adventure to Sky Meadows State Park. It is a popular destination for night sky viewing. Being on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains allows this location to limit the light pollution and the stars illuminate the night sky. During the day you and your family can head over to the 20th Annual Delaplane Strawberry Festival. There will be hayrides, music and dancing, crafts, a petting zoo, an antique car show, and a Corn Hole tournament. Don’t forget to enjoy a strawberry! A weekend that shouldn’t be missed!
